The SIGN Network want to help residents of the borough find out about events, groups and activities that take place in their local area - to help them connect with other people and make friends, do things they enjoy and learn new skills, and ultimately reduce their feelings of loneliness.

Help us to

End loneliness

North Tyneside

How can you help?

1. Visit the SIGN North Tyneside Directory online and find out what’s happening in your local area. Get involved in a group or an activity and start to feel the benefits of connecting with new people!

2. Tell your friends, neighbours and others about the campaign and the SIGN North Tyneside Directory. Support them to get online if you can.

3. If you run or attend a group, club or activity, tell us about it! You can add it to the SIGN North Tyneside Directory for free.

 4. Start chatting! Becoming a Happy to Chat volunteer will help you connect with those around you

SIGN North Tyneside are supporting the national Campaign to End Loneliness.

We are also signed up to their campaign #BeMoreUs.

SIGN North Tyneside and VODA are working in collaboration with Whitley Bay Big Local to develop ‘Happy to Chat’ schemes across North Tyneside to help reduce loneliness and social isolation.

Residents can sign up to be volunteers and will be given Happy to Chat badges to wear out in the community, so that anyone who feels isolated or lonely will know that they can approach them for a friendly chat.

Residents can also come along to our launch event on

Tuesday 28th January

10am - 3pm at

North Shields Beacon Shopping Centre
